Sources

There are records of birth, marriage and death for Skinnskatteberg parish from the 1630s and on (a couple of pages even earlier). This is early for Sweden. Birth, marriage and death are recorded in the same book up to 1720. The first separate death book starts in 1721, the first separate marriage book in 1775.

There is also a first household record, started in 1663, and more oriented towards keeping track of the families than towards taking notes from cathechism examinations. The same book was used for a long and indefinite time, so some pages are very messy - it is, nevertheless, very useful. The second book of household records, dated 1720 is less clear about dates. The taxation records, year by year may serve as an important complement. The third book of household records is better dated, but has pages missing in the beginning. From 1737 and on the household records are very informative. Since Skinnskatteberg was a big parish the records are first in two volumes, later in four. Most of them have village indexes in the beginning - but you may have to look through all four before you find the village you are looking for.
